Certificate in Food & Beverage, Foundation, 12 Weeks

Gain the specialist skills you need to begin an exciting career in hospitality and graduate with a recognised and well-respected New Zealand qualification.

INTRODUCTION

This introductory programme begins by looking at the essential components of hospitality businesses: from cafés and takeaways to bars, restaurants, luxury hotels and resorts. Our focus is to introduce key terminology along with practical skills through interactive workshops and classes.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

In this module, you will learn what it takes to become a hospitality service professionals. Starting with the foundations of customer service, you will gain confidence as you progress.

BARISTA & COFFEE

You will start with learning about coffee and espresso beverages. This will develop your understanding and practical barista skills with work experience in our on-site café. 

WORK EXPERIENCE

Work experience will be conducted over 5 days and enable you to put into practice many of the skills you are learning.

PATHWAYS TO FURTHER STUDY

Graduates can return to NZSFW to study NZ Certificate in Cookery Level 3, or NZ Certificate in Food & Beverage Level 4.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates will be able to find work as servers and baristas in cafés, restaurants, bars, clubs and hotels.

GRADUATE PLACEMENT SERVICE

All graduates have access to the NZSFW Internship Placement Service when it is time to seek employment. This service is also available for industry placements during your studies.

Course Requirements

  • Aged 17 or over; international students must be aged 18 or over
  • Attend an interview in person or by telephone
  • Upper intermediate level of English: IELTS 5.5 or equivalent for international students*
  • Valid visitor visa for international students

* English language pathways available.

  • Food Safety unit standards
