This comprehensive wine course focuses on the main wine varietals grown in New Zealand and the styles of wine that have built their reputations. The course looks at the European traditions that have influenced NZ winemaking, as well as the winemaking process and basics of viticulture. Students learn how to taste and evaluate wines and the principles that underscore food and wine matching.

This course incorporates the following unit standards:

  • Unit Standards 4637 Level 4 Credit 4 (Ver 5) Demonstrate knowledge of NZ wines and wine producers
  • Unit Standards 22912 Level 4 Credit 4 (Ver 1) Evaluate wine
  • Unit Standards 23060 Level 3 Credit 4 (Ver 1) Demonstrate knowledge of viticulture and wine making
