The Wine and Spirit Education Trust

WSET, the largest global provider of wine qualifications, is launching the first ever global ‘Wine Education Week’ from 9 -15 September 2019. Part of WSET’s 50thanniversary campaign, Wine Education Week aims to engage with the growing population of wine consumers worldwide, encouraging them to learn more about wine.

 

WSET 50th Anniversary Tasting

An invitation to all past and present WSET students to come along to celebrate WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) courses offered in New Zealand with a tasting of French wines lead by Sommelier Andrea Martinisi.

WSET One hour seminars + Tasting of two wines

Vine to Glass

Want to know more about wine but don’t know where to start? This introductory tasting provides you with the skills to start tasting wines like a true professional. In this class we will taste two New Zealand chardonnays - one smelling of apples and river stones and the other ripe pineapples, caramel and toasty oak.

Deciphering Wine Labels

Do you ever panic about picking the wrong bottle? Discover how to judge a bottle by the label and gain the confidence to choose what you’re looking for. During this class we will taste and read the label of a German Riesling from the Mosel Region and a leading New Zealand Pinot Noir.

Finding the Perfect Match

Explore how the key components in food – acidity, salt and sweetness – impact the way we taste wine. Learn skills that can be applied to any menu or wine list. Using a selection of foods, we will experiment pairing a class Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Hawkes Bay Syrah.

Mastering Maturation

Ever wondered why Riojas can taste so different? Or what makes your glass of Chardonnay taste buttery? Learn how ageing wines in barrels and bottles can impact the taste of the wine you drink. 

During this class we will taste a leading New Zealand Chardonnay and Gran Reserva from Rioja.
