Cookery Courses


NZSFW offers several different levels of NZQA accredited full-time cookery courses. Students can enrol directly into each level of the study pathway and continue only as far as they need. These NZQA courses are eligible for student loans and allowances for New Zealand Residents.

 

Certificate in Cookery, Foundation

Learn the foundation cookery skills to begin your culinary career and give you confidence in a professional kitchen. Have fun learning these fundamental techniques and go on to work experience placement for two weeks. Follow this course with the New Zealand Certificate in Cookery Advanced Level 4.

This programme focuses on ingredients and the understanding of advanced cookery techniques and building an in depth knowledge of how products are transformed by cooking processes. Human Resources and Kitchen Management also form an important part of skill development.

Founded by Celia Hay, the New Zealand School of Food and Wine opened its first campus in Christchurch in 1995. In 2012, a new campus was established in the heart of downtown Auckland when NZSFW relocated to Auckland following the Christchurch earthquakes. NZSFW offers fully-equipped modern demonstration and practical kitchens, dining room, cocktail bar, wine tasting and barista training rooms, seminar and reception area.

Our school

Study Fees Free

All full time NZQA Approved courses are eligible for Fees Free funding. If you’re a New Zealander or are ordinarily resident in New Zealand and were at school in 2017, 2018 or 2019 (other than as an adult student), you may qualify for the equivalent of one years’ fees-free provider-based study or two years’ industry training in 2019.

Celia Hay

Celia Hay's great love of delicious food, fine wine and the art of hospitality led her to establish Hay's Restaurant in 1994 and the New Zealand School of Food and Wine in 1995 in Christchurch, New Zealand.
